Mission of SPIRITUS

Our two main goals are:

  1. To inspire thousands of young Catholics

  2. Form young adults as lifelong missionary disciples and leaders for the Church.

SPIRITUS Ministries:

  • Inspires young Catholics through retreats, youth ministry and campus ministry.

  • Awakens youth to their role as disciples and how they can live for Christ.

  • Witnesses to the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Energizes young Catholics to do their part in renewing life in the Church.

  • Forms young adults for leadership in the Church.

History

In 1983, La Salle Retreat Center began under the direction of Dan Landowski and Richard Roller, FSC. They provided hospitality, faith formation, and youth retreats. In 1999, Sister Mary Jo Kirt, OSF became the Administrator, and the name of the center was changed to the Mount Tabor Center. The new name reflected the mission of the youth retreat facility as a place of transformation.

In 2003, Eden and Katherine Foord became the Directors of the Mount Tabor Center, and the ministry began to grow at a fast pace. In 2009, SPIRITUS began in order to keep up with the growing ministry in response to the call of Pope Benedict XVI for young adults to enter into the mission of the Church.  Over the past several year, SPIRITUS expanded to multiple teams, providing the ability to inspire more than 5,300 young adults on over 150 retreats each year.

Currently, SPIRITUS evangelizes Catholic youth and young adults throughout Wisconsin through retreats, parish youth ministry, and college campus ministry. Over the past several years, SPIRITUS expanded to multiple teams evangelizing more young Catholics and giving young adults more opportunities to serve.

"You can improve the world and leave an imprint that makes a mark on history, your history and that of many others. The Church and society need you.”

-Pope Francis
